In the Footprints of our Ancestors Ancient Polyphony of Georgia by Zedashe |
|
Zedashe is a small mixed choir based in Sighnaghi, Georgia—a fortified hillside town in the heart of the wine country. They have been collecting, performing, and teaching traditional Georgian songs and chants for the last 14 years. Zedashe seeks to preserve the informal village style of singing that has been passed down over the centuries in families of bards. The very word ‘zedashe’ means a sacred vessel for keeping wine, the place where special items are kept for the Great Church feasts, or can even refer to the place where ancestors are still buried in the earth. The members of Ensemble Zedashe are also active chanters at the St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Sighnaghi. Album Playlist:
